Ocular pharmacology widens the horizon of students on pharmacology as it relates to the eye. This in turn, prepares them on correct use of drugs and drug dosaging in effective management of eye conditions in the community.
Goal:
This course is designed to enable students acquire knowledge on pharmacology as it relates to community eye care.
Objectives:
By the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1.0 Describe ocular pharmacology
2.0 Discuss drug nomenclature, ophthalmic drug preparation
3.0 Discuss dosage forms of ophthalmic drugs and ophthalmic drug classification
4.0 Discuss relevant pharmaceutical abbreviations in prescription writing
5.0 Describe routes of administration of ophthalmic drugs
6.0 Describe ocular manifestations of some systemically administered drugs
Describe side effects, contraindications and adverse drug reactions of ocular drugs
