Goal:
This course is designed to provide the learners with desired knowledge and skills on methods of Epidemic Investigation and Management.
Objectives:
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
1.0 Describe Basic Concepts of Infectious Diseases, and the Social and Environmental Factors that Contribute to Outbreak Occurrence and Spread.
2.0 Describe the Steps in an Outbreak Investigation
3.0 Interpret Outbreak Measurement Concepts including: Attack Rates, Exposure, Risk, Latency, and Incubation Period.
4.0 Identify Patterns of Outbreak Sources and Occurrences
5.0 Describe Population-Level and Individual-Level Risk Factors for Disease Outbreak
6.0 Identify Key Features of Outbreak Surveillance Systems at Local, State, National and International Levels
7.0 Identify and Distinguish the Roles and Authorities of various Government Agencies in Outbreak Management and Response.
8.0 Discuss Systems-Level Factors that Impact Outbreak Management and Response, including Emergency Preparedness and Response Planning, Surveillance System Performance, Communications, and Legal and Jurisdictional issues.
